Caring for someone is a big responsibility and it is important to focus on your own health and wellbeing.
Carers SA is the lead Carer Gateway provider in South Australia and provides a range of supports for Carers. Carers SA may be able to assist you directly, or coordinate referrals to another agency.
If you provide personal care, support or assistance to family or friends who live with:
- A disability
- A mental illness
- Dementia
- A chronic health condition
- An illness that is terminal
- An alcohol or drug related problem or
- Someone who is frail due to age,
Then, you are a Carer and may be able to access the services offered by Carers SA.
You can contact Carers SA on 1800 422 737. They will register you with the Australian Government’s Carer Gateway and start your planning process. This process helps Carers SA to learn more about you and your caring role so they can match services to your individual needs.
These services may include:
- Carer breaks
- Carer support planning
- Coaching and counselling
- Emergency respite
- Peer support groups
- Tailored support packages
- Young carer services
You can also speak to your local council or community centre, who may be able to assist with connecting you to local services.
